Louisville's WFPK highlights Dev Marvelous' Road Angel Project contribution, which benefits Sweet Relief

FEATURE

The pandemic may be winding down, and we may be able to take off masks, but there are plenty of folks still struggling to get back on their feet — especially in the music industry. Inara George’s Road Angel Project initiative with The Sweet Relief Musicians’ Fund continues. The most recent release is a hot (🔥 🔥 🔥), funky, and soulful vocal take on a chunk of the Bird and the Bee catalog by Louisville-based producer Dev Marvelous. When Dev reached out as a fan to make Inara aware of the tracks, she immediately decided to release them herself! Now we have Road Angel Project Presents: Dev Marvelous x The Bird and The Bee, available everywhere on Release Me Records.

Thanks to 91.9 WFPK FM for the local love. Go here for more info on Sweet Relief’s COVID-19 efforts.

Cover Me loves Dev Marvelous' "pulsing, vivid, and joyful" take on the bird and the bee's "La La La"

FEATURE

”Though Dev Marvelous’ take on the bird and the bee’s ‘La La La’ may bear some hallmarks of a solo production made in COVID-imposed isolation,” Cover Me Songs writes, “this is bedroom pop of a different and brighter sort: pulsing, vivid, joyful… Elegant electric piano stabs, tinges of nouveau samba, a wormy synth and impressive vocal stacks run through the track, evoking some of the most infectious and synesthetic pop work from producer Greg Kurstin (the ‘Bee’ to Inara George’s ‘Bird’).”

Dev’s full, funky collection of bird and the bee covers is available now from Release Me Records.

FEATURE

MXDWN has coverage of the upcoming sixth volume of the Road Angel Project series and writes that Dev Marvelous’ cover of The Bird and the Bee’s “La La La” is “a funky synth jam” that transforms the song’s sound from “hazy psychedelic indie to jazzy funk pop.”

The complete collection of Dev’s covers will be out next Friday, April 16 on Release Me Records.

Link in bio, along with an interview with Dev and Inara George about the project.

York Calling premieres "Brightest Star Tonight," Daedelus "layered and lively" contribution to The Road Angel Project

PREMIERE

Big thanks to York Calling for premiering Daedelus’ “Brightest Star Tonight” in conjunction with its release today as part of the fifth edition of the Road Angel Project series on Release Me Records. The site calls the song “something of an electronic odyssey. Layered and lively, it’s punchy compared to a lot of his sprawling soundscapes I’ve heard previously. An understated beginning slowly builds as the various electronic melodies start to coalesce at the track’s climax.”

In addition to Daedelus, Volume 5 includes tracks from Michael Andrews featuring (Inara George) and Gabe Noel. As with all Road Angel Project releases, the goal is to raise funds and awareness for Sweet Relief, which does extraordinary work to help people in the music industry impacted by the ongoing pandemic.

Elmore presents the "beautiful and bittersweet" Mr. Banjo track from Road Angel Project Vol. 4

PREMIERE

Thank you, Elmore Magazine, for spreading the word about the late Los Angeles musician Tony Fernandez, sometimes called Mr. Banjo, whose song “Give It Some Time” appears on the newest edition of the Inara George-curated Road Angel Project series.

Elmore notes that Fernandez “spent much of his life playing in punk bands throughout the ’80s as a bass player, front man, and all-around personality.” His later years were more serene, and Elmore describes the new track - a duet with Sarah Devincentis - as “beautiful” and “bittersweet.”
